Einaudi 768. 5th edition of Cabet's great utopian work, first published in 1840 as the Voyage et aventures de Lord Villiam Carisdall en Icarie, traduits de l'anglais de Francis Adams par Th. Dufruit. All editions prior to 1848 are rare, the first edition being particularly so. The importance of Cabet's attempt at a system of Christian communism is well known (see, for example, Christopher H Johnson, Utopian Communism in France: Cabet and the Icarians, 1839-1851. 1974). It is of interest to notice that this 5th edition was published not only in the year when the first Icarian colonists settled in the United States, but also in the year of revolutions in Europe and the Communist Manifesto.
