A letter on the question of inclosing and improving waste lands and commons. John Robinson, a grandfather of the poet Wordsworth, held office as Secretary of the Treasury, 1770- 1782, retiring with a pension of œ1000 per annum. Pitt appointed him 'Surveyor-General of Woods and Forests' in 1787. In that capacity he planted some 20,000 oaks at Windsor and, in the present open letter to the chairman of the Board of Agriculture, recommends a vigorous programme of tree planting on uncultivated waste lands.
