1. Q. How do I order a book?

A. The first time you visit John Drury Rare Books and want to order a book, we make it as simple as possible for you. You do not need to create an account to purchase from us.
Simply choose the book(s) you would like to purchase and proceed to the checkout. Here you will be asked for your payment and delivery information. This process is totally secure.

2. Q. If I purchase a book online are my personal details safe?

A. Be assured that we keep all personal information submitted to us in the strictest confidence. The information is stored on a secured server and is only used to process orders from John Drury Rare Books. This information will not be released to anyone other than those necessary to fulfill your order. We do not rent or sell your name, address, credit card information or personal information to any third party without your permission. However, we must cooperate fully should a situation arise where we are required by law or legal process to provide information about a customer.

3. Q. How do I search for a book I would like to purchase?

A. Use the book search form which is on every page. Simply enter any information you have and our search system will search our online database, using the book's title, author and description fields.

4. Q. How do I check items that I have placed in my shopping cart?

You can check your shopping cart at any time by clicking on the "View Cart" link on the top right hand side of every page.

5. Q. How many books do you have in stock?

We list approaching 2,000 items (books, pamphlets, broadsides & manuscripts) on our website at any one time. Although we endeavour to keep our website listing up-to-date, we cannot absolutely guarantee that an item is in stock. You may like to telephone or email to check the availability. In addition to those items on our website, we have several thousand further items in stock at our premises. The large majority of sales are from our printed catalogues, issued four to five times a year and which are free to customers.

6. Q. Can I return a book that I don't like ?

John Drury Rare Books complies fully with the UK Distant Selling Regulations.

If for any reason a purchaser is unhappy with a book supplied by us we will accept it back without question, provided we are notified within two weeks from date of invoice and that the book is returned promptly, safely and without damage.

Returned items must be in exactly the same condition as supplied and should be returned in the supplied packaging or packaging of equivalent strength / quality.

Before returning items to us, please contact us to discuss the reason for return so that we may resolve any problems quickly and easily.

John Drury Rare Books cannot pay for return shipping charges unless we have made a shipping error. All returns, including any credits applied for return shipping charges, will be credited to the credit card used in the purchase. We will make every effort to process returned items within 7-10 business days. Please note that it may take 1-2 billing cycles for your bank to post the credit to your statement.

Our Guarantee

We guarantee the book you purchase will reach you in good condition. If it doesn't or you are not completely satisfied with it for some other reason, please return the item to us (within 30 days of receipt) and we will replace or refund the full cost of the book. Shipping and handling expenses are not subject to refund unless the book was damaged or we shipped you the wrong item. If so, we will absorb the costs to send you the correct item. This does not affect your statutory rights.

7. Q. How can I pay for my books ?

We normally invoice our books in £ Sterling.
Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard, JCB, Visa Electron, Maestro and Solo cards. Credit cards are handled by our secure server, which is fully encrypted and totally secure. We also accept payment through PayPal or by cheques (in £Sterling) and bank transfers.

We do not charge for your books until we dispatch them.

9. Q. What are the shipping costs ?

Books are insured by us and usually sent by Royal Mail (1st class Recorded Delivery inland, or Airmail Printed Paper Recorded Delivery overseas). When occasionally we send a large group of books together these will usually be sent by 48-hour recorded parcel (Parcelforce) inland, and by Standard International Parcel (i.e. by Air) overseas. However, other arrangements can easily be made to suit customers' wishes. The cost of carriage will be made up of the actual cost of postage (including the Recorded Delivery cost - at present 68p inland and £3.50 overseas), insurance at 0.25% inland and 0.5% overseas, and a very small amount for packing and handling.

10. Q. Do you have a Privacy Policy ?

We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998). We collect information about you for 2 reasons: firstly, to process your order and second, to provide you with the best possible service. The type of information we may collect about you includes:
Your name, address, phone number, email address & credit/debit card details.
From time to time we may notify you of special offers that may be of interest to you. You agree that you do not object to us contacting you for any of the above purposes whether by telephone, e-mail or in writing and you confirm that you do not and will not consider any of the above as being a breach of any of your rights under the Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy) Regulations 1999.
Please email us if you wish to opt out of any of our correspondence.

Your Personal Information may be disclosed to other reputable third parties who will help process your order, our carriers for example. John Drury Rare Books requires all such third parties to treat your personal information as confidential and fully to comply with all applicable UK Data Protection and consumer legislation from time to time in place. We will not release your Personal Information to any company outside John Drury Rare Books for mailing or marketing purposes.

You should be aware that if we are requested by the police or any other regulatory or government authority investigating suspected illegal activities to provide your Personal Information and /or User Information we are entitled do so.
